African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust. The ACLT aims to raise awareness

and increase black representation on the UK bone marrow register. The

chances of finding a match are greater if the

bone marrow donor is from the same racial

background as the recipient. The ACLT has

raised the numbers from 550 to 15,000 since

Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust. The Anthony Nolan Trust takes

back lives from leukaemia by

managing and recruiting new

donors to the UK's most successful

bone marrow register as well as undertaking vital

research leading to improvements in the effectiveness

and safety of bone marrow transplants. The Anthony

Nolan is responsible for finding suitable unrelated

donors for patients who require bone marrow

transplants. Fewer than 30 per cent of patients who

need bone marrow transplants are able to find a

compatible donor within their own families. The rest rely

on the generosity of strangers who have volunteered to

Beating Bowel Cancer. A national charity working

to raise awareness of the

symptoms, promote early

diagnosis and encourage treatment

choice for those affected by bowel

cancer. The charity provides

authoritative information about the

disease, its symptoms, what to do if

diagnosed, and what treatment choices

Bone Cancer Research Trust. 90% of all new cases of Primary

Bone Cancer (PBC) will develop in

teenagers. The Bone Cancer

Research Trust is devoted to promoting

research into the causes and treatment of PBC, particularly Osteosarcoma & Ewing's Sarcoma,

and to improving outcomes for patients; and

providing information and support for patients

and families.

British Brain and Spine Foundation. The Brain and Spine Foundation was

set up in 1992 to develop research,

education and information programmes

aimed at improving the prevention, treatment

and care of people affected by disorders of the

brain and spine and to stimulate the greater

allocation of resources across all neurological

Breast Cancer Care. Breast Cancer Care is the UK's

leading provider of information,

practical assistance and emotional

support for anyone affected by breast cancer.

All services provided are free and include a

helpline, website, publications, as well as

practical and emotional support. Download a

British Lung Foundation. The charity supports people affected by

lung disease through the individual

challenges they will face. Support is the

focus of many of their activities, including

the nationwide network of Breathe Easy support

groups and Baby Breathe Easy parent support

groups. The British Lung Foundation helps people to understand their condition by providing

comprehensive and clear information on paper, on the web and on the telephone. They work for

positive change in lung health and do this by

campaigning, raising awareness and funding

BT Buddies. The purpose of BT

Buddies is to

provide as much

information as possible in one

place on high grade brain

tumours for patients, families

and caregivers in the UK. As

well as the information pages

they have a forum area where

people can ask questions, get

support, share their stories, and

Cancernet-UK. This website describes

the management of

cancer, its therapies,

their side effects and tips how to cope

with them. Patients themselves have

included topics, practical tips and tools

they have found helpful during their

cancer journey. These pages emphasize

the evidence and benefits of lifestyle after cancer to improve wellbeing and reduce

the risk of relapse. They also have a

Cancerbackup. Cancerbackup

merged with

Macmillan Cancer

Support in April 2008. They provide high quality,

expertly developed information about cancer, and

make it available to everyone who needs it. Their

vision is for all people affected by cancer to have the information they want, when they want it. Their

travel insurance fact sheet provides information on

healthcare abroad, vaccinations and immunisations,

as well as a list of travel insurance providers who

may be able to help those with a diagnosis of

Cancer Research UK. Cancer Research

UK is the world's

leading charity

dedicated to research on the causes,

treatment and prevention of cancer. The

charity supports the work of over 3,000

scientists, doctors and nurses working across

the UK and spends over £213 million per

annum on scientific research. The charity

runs CancerHelp UK a free information

service about cancer and cancer care

for people with cancer and their families.

There is a large section dedicated to dealing

with all aspects of travel insurance including

a list of specialist travel insurance providers

who may be able to help with obtaining travel

Children's Cancer & Leukaema Group. The CCLG is a national professional body

responsible for the organisation of the

treatment and management of children

with cancer in the UK. The Group's main remit is the

coordination of national and international clinical

trials, including biological studies. Other areas of

activity include national cancer registration and

Chai Cancer Care. Chai Cancer Care is

the Anglo-Jewish

community's cancer

support organisation, helping

both patients and loved ones

affected by cancer to cope.

Chai's elegant purpose built

centre provides a wide range of

services; from complementary

therapies to expert referrals, and counselling to legal and financial

Christian Lewis Trust. The charity provides a

confidential 'listening ear' for

anyone who is or ever has been affected by a child with cancer. The trust offers

specially coordinated ‘stress-free’ programmes that

ensure that families who need a break in the UK, or

wish to visit Disneyland Paris and Disney World

Florida, do not have to worry about anything other

than enjoying themselves. Using play and creative

arts the charity is able to help children express their

feelings and experiences to try and come to terms

with their medical condition.

Christie’s. The Christie Hospital is one

of the largest cancer

treatment centres in Europe

and a leading centre for clinical trials in the

UK. We enjoy an international reputation

for excellence, treating more than 40,000

CLIC Sargent. CLIC (Cancer and

Leukaemia in

Childhood) and

Sargent Cancer Care

for Children merged in January 2005 to become the UK's leading children's

cancer charity. Both have a history of

excellent care and support. The charity

seeks to provide individual support to

children and young people with cancer

and leukaemia through psychosocial,

emotional and financial services in

hospital, at home and in the

Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia Support Association. The Chronic

Lymphocytic

Leukaemia

Support Association (CLLSA) is the UK's only charity

specifically for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL).

The aim of their site is to be the leading one-stop

resource for patients in the UK with CLL and their

carers. They aim to provide accurate and up-to-date

information on CLL in a patient friendly format. They

also have a list of specialist travel insurance

Department Of Health. Responsible for the

NHS, social care and

public heath, the

department provides health advice for

travellers as well as information on

obtaining health insurance and the cover

provided by the European health

insurance Card (EHIC) in Europe.

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO). The Foreign & Commonwealth

Office (FCO) is the British

Government department

responsible for overseas relations and

foreign affairs. It provides up-to-date travel

advice by country, information about travel

insurance, the European Health Insurance

Card (EHIC), and general advice about

The Irish Cancer Society. The Irish Cancer Society, is the

national charity dedicated to preventing

cancer, saving lives from cancer and

improving the quality of life of those

living with cancer through patient care, research and

education. The main work of the Society is the delivery of

nursing services to patients with cancer throughout

Ireland. These services include; funding hospital based

Oncology Liaison Nurses, community based Night

Nursing for patients in their home, and Home Care

Nursing teams. The Society operates a FreeFone Cancer

Helpline, staffed by fully qualified nurses. Additionally the

Society is the largest single voluntary supporter of cancer

Kidscan. Kidscan promote and support

research into the causes,

prevention, treatment and cure

of cancers in children and in

furtherance of that primary

object to provide information and raise public understanding of

Kidney Cancer UK. There are 6000

newly diagnosed

cases of kidney

cancer each year in the UK.

There is an urgent need for

earlier diagnosis and more

effective treatment. KCUK seeks

to raise public awareness of

kidney cancer and to support the needs of patients and carers

through help lines, newsletters

Leukaemia Care. Leukaemia Car exists

to provide vital care and support to all those

whose lives are affected by

leukaemia, lymphoma and the

allied blood disorders. Our work

extends to the welfare of

families and carers, as well as

that of patients themselves.

National Kidney Research Fund. Founded in 1961, the

National Kidney

Research Fund is the

leading UK charity funding research that

focuses on the prevention, treatment and management of kidney disease. The

Fund dedicates its work to relevant

research, improving patient care and

raising awareness of kidney disease in

Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Leukaemia & Lymphoma

Research was previously

known as Leukaemia

Research. Their life-saving research is focussed on

finding causes, improving diagnosis and treatments,

and running groundbreaking clinical trials for all blood

cancer patients. Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research

publish a list of specialist companies offering travel

Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan Cancer Support

improves the lives of people

affected by cancer. They

provide practical, medical, emotional and

financial support and campaign for better cancer

care. Cancerbackup merged with Macmillan Cancer

Support in April 2008. They provide high quality,

expertly developed information about cancer,

and make it available to everyone who needs it.

Their vision is for all people affected by cancer

to have the information they want, when they

want it. They also publish a list of travel

Maggie’s Centres. Maggie's Centres are for anybody who has, or who has had cancer.

They are also for their families,

their friends and their carers. The aim of Maggie's Centres is to help people with cancer to be as

healthy in mind and body as possible and enable

them to make their own contribution to their

medical treatment and recovery. They allow

people to address all aspects of living with

cancer. They can share their experiences with

others in similar situations and, with professional

help, inform themselves about the medical

realities of their disease. The friendly environment of the centres, close in each case to a major

cancer hospital treatment centre, invites people to take time out and gives them a non-institutional

Marie Curie Cancer Care. The charity seeks to

challenge cancer through

its work in care and

research. Every year the charity provides

care to around 30,000 cancer patients and

their families - entirely free of charge. In the

community, Marie Curie Nursing gives

terminally ill people the choice of dying at

home, supported by their families. The

10 Marie Curie Hospices, actively promote

quality of life for patients and provide much

needed support for their carers. The charity

is also investigating the causes of cancer and better ways to treat the disease at the Marie

Myeloma UK. Myeloma UK provides

information and

support to all those

affected by myeloma and aims to improve

treatment and care through education,

research, campaigning and awareness. They also publish a travel insurance information

NHS South East London Cancer Network (SELCN). The South

East

London

Cancer Network site aims to

provide simple, easy to

understand information - at an

introductory level - to cancer

patients, their families, friends

and carers. Subjects covered

include cancers, tests and

treatments, living with cancer,

cancer services, and getting

help and support. They also

have a list of companies willing

to consider providing travel

insurance cover for people who

NHS North of England Cancer Network (NECN). This site

provides

information

for patients, carers and general

members of the public who

would like to know about cancer

services in the North of England.

They also publish a list of

insurance for people who have

Ovarian Cancer Action. Ovarian

cancer action

is taking to

steps to improve the survival of

women with ovarian cancer, by

raising awareness of symptoms

and risk factors, funding

research and giving women a

Ovacome. Ovacome are a UK-wide support

network providing information and

support for everyone affected by ovarian

cancer. Their site is designed for women

with ovarian cancer, their families,

friends and carers, and

health professionals. It includes real-life

stories about how other people have

coped with the disease and information

about treatment, screening and

research. There are also opportunities to contact other people with ovarian cancer. www.ovacome.org.uk

Pancreatic Cancer UK. Pancreatic Cancer UK is

committed to fighting pancreatic

cancer through research,

awareness, information and support and

other projects of benefit to pancreatic

cancer patients. The charity aims to raise

awareness of cancer of the pancreas to aid

earlier diagnosis and to stimulate and

enable more research into better detection

and treatment. It provides a central

resource of information on pancreatic

cancer to patients, caregivers and GPs and

Prostate CancerCharity. One of our

aims is to

encourage,

support and carry out research

into the causes, prevention and

treatment of prostate cancer and also research the impact of
